RJA #2b: Research Topic

I decided to pick the topic "Comparison of Various Sport Injuries" as my topic for my argumentative research paper. What is going to be argumentative about this paper is why Rugby should be allowed in High Schools across America as a varsity sport. I picked this topic because I want to be a Physical Therapist and sport related injuries interest me. I also play rugby which is why I am focusing on that particular sport. I chose this topic because it interests me on many different levels.

I know a lot about rugby and injuries related to it. I have played rugby on many different levels and that has established a firm knowledge base for the sport. I use to play many sport throughout high school and believe that this paper will reflect that rugby is not only less dangerous, but also has a wider community, and also teaches young men and women many valuable life lessons. There are many preconceived notions about how tough and dangerous rugby is. I plan to disprove those notions and prove that not only is rugby more safe it is also a better building block for teamwork, friendship, and strength.

I do not know a few things about this subject. I do not know the actual statistics of Rugby injuries, or other high school sport injuries, I also do not know whether or not Rugby actually has a lower injury rate than other sports. Hopefully through my research I will find that Rugby is indeed a more safe and helpful sport for high school students. If I find that this is not true I guess I will have to change my hypothesis to fit a positive view of why Rugby should be allowed in high schools across America.

  1. Your topic would work for an informative paper, but I'm not sure what position you could argue about it. In addition, I would not consider allowing rugby in high schools to be a scholarly or academic topic. Would one of your other topics be a more scholarly one (psychological effects) on which experts disagree?
